Frequently Asked Questions about Navigation Software

(1)              How come my device can’t indicate my correct position?

There are two conditions for accurate positioning:

a)        GPS settings must be correct

Your device might not be able to receive GPS signal if the port number and baud rate are not set correctly.

b)        Coverage

As the mountains, high-rise buildings and bridges will shield, reflect or deflect GPS signals, please make sure your device is placed in an open area with good signal reception. You also need to make sure there are 3 or more satellites available for the device to calculate your coordinates, i.g. for positioning.

Also, if your device can’t receive GPS signal, it could be the reason of hardware defect, please contact your hardware dealer for solution.

Note: on initialization, the navigation device will need some time to complete initial positioning, generally 1-3 minutes, please be patient.

(2)              Does your software support speeding camera warning? Can I add such camera information to my map data?

Yes. When you come across a camera, you can move the cursor to where the camera is on the map and touch the “Shortcut menu”, choose “Add camera”, and a new camera point will be added to the map database, next time you come close to this camera point you will be warned in advance.

(3)              Why the route suggested by the navigation software is so different from what I think it should be?

When planning the route, the navigation software will take the following into consideration: the shortest distance, the best route, expressway priority, road condition as well as the current status of the map, while the road condition could be changing everyday, such as restriction on the road ends. As such changes can’t be shown on the map whenever they take place (the map can’t be updated that often), the route planned could be different from what you think it should be, please follow the road sign and made decision according to the real condition of the roads.

(4)              Do I have to pay service fee for using the navigation software?

You don’t have to pay for just receiving GPS signal. We offer free upgrade of your digital map for one year, after that, you will have to pay for map data upgrade, please contact our dealers or our Sales Department for details.

(5)              How come the position indicator (car icon) does not show the correct position of my car?

That could be the problem of positioning accuracy. Currently the GPS accuracy can be as good as 15 meters or less, however, it could be worse due to the shielding or reflection of GPS signal by buildings, etc., which causes the position indicator to appear at the wrong place. When planning a route, the navigation software will automatically correct the positioning error by snapping the icon to the nearby road, and remarkably improve the positioning accuracy.

(6)              What should I do if I miss a turn or fail to follow the route during the guiding process?

The navigation software will automatically recalculate a route for you based on your current position if it detects you are not on the planned route. Just follow the new route and go ahead!

(7)              How come the position indicator keeps springing around when my car actually stays still?

This is caused by the insufficient positioning accuracy of your GPS device, as it is called "GPS Zero Drifting". With the performance of the GPS receivers being continuously improved and the navigation software specifically designed to deal with it, such phenomenon has become scarce.

Frequently Asked Questions about Digital Map

(1)      Can I add to or modify the existing digital map data, for example, adding a POI or a section of road?

Answer: NO. Currently our digital map does not support such function, as the map data has been encrypted by the Star Map Press, there is no way the other parties or individuals can modify the map data.

(2)      How come I sometimes can not find some basic POIs?

There are three basic reasons:

1.      The name of the POI stored in the database is different from what you input.

For example: you might input “Shenzhen Station” while what is stored in the database is “Shenzhen Railway Station”, if such is the case, you will not get the results you want. You may try a fuzzy search with fewer key words, such as “Station”, then you probably will get the right return.

2.      Why isn’t my may data up to date?

As a matter of fact, roads and POIs are changing everyday while the updating of the map data is subject to certain life cycle, generally 2-3 times each year, therefore, if you can’t find the information you want, it could be that the map data is not updated. Please keep a close eye on our map data update notice.

3.      The POI you have tried to search belongs to those prohibited to be integrated in the digital map according to the State’s policy.

According to the State’s policy, information that is not allowed to be integrated or indicated in the digital map includes: military facilities, military forbidden zones, units and facilities in close relation to public security and civil facilities in relation to national economy. If the POIs you try to search fall within any of those categories, you certainly won’t get the results you want.

(3)      How do I update my navigation software and digital map? How often can I update them?
Answer: Dealers can go to our website and download the latest map data, and the end users can send the storage card back to us and we will update it with new data and send it back to you; map data are scheduled to be updated twice a year, and 4 times a year for certain areas; the navigation software is scheduled to be updated 3 times a year.

(4)      How do I buy new map data? From the vendors or buy them online?
Answer: To purchase new map data, you can call our sales team or go to a vendor’s shop or buy it online. For contact information of our vendors or how to buy it online, please visit our website to find out.

(5)      How do I distinguish the software’s beta version from the final release version?
Answer: There is a “Data for test only” label in the About dialogue of the beta version, while there is no such label in the final release version.
